*How do I turn on a Macintosh?

 
iMac
There is a button on the front of the monitor of the iMac.  Just to the right of the CD slot is the power button.

If the machine does not start make sure the plug in the back is pushed in all of the way.  The cables have a tendency to come loose.

iBook
With the top of the iBook open look just above the keyboard there is a button.  Hold the button down.  Some of the iBooks take a little longer to start than others.  You may have to push the button more than once or hold the button a little longer.

If the iBook does not start use a pencil to push in the restart button on the left hand side of the machine.  The button has a circle icon with a triangle in the middle of it. Once you have pushed in the reset button try turning the iBook on again.

If the machine does not have restart button or if that does not work remove the battery off the bottom of the iBook.  Put the battery back in and try to start the iBook again.

*How do I put a CD into the computer?

iMac 
Slide the CD face up into the slot on the front of the iMac

 

iBook
Hold down the F12 button at the top of the keyboard on the right hand side.

 

*How do I eject a disk?

Normally...

 
Slot Load:
Click and hold on the CD icon 
Drag the icon to the trash
Let go of the icon when the trash can turns black

If it is a tray load computer: There is a button on the front of the computer.
 

If the CD does not open Straighten a paperclip and stick it in the little hole located on the right hand side of the CD slot or tray.

*How do I know what printer I am using?

 
Looking of the Desktop
Locate the printer icon on the Desktop (the blue part of the screen) that has a black line around it.  This is the selected printer.

Double click on the icon to see which items need to be prinited or to see if there is a problem with the printer.

If everything looks ok check to make sure a connection is being made with the printer by go to the:
     Rainbow Apple
     Chooser
     Laserwriter 8 or other printer icon
     See if the chosen printer can be seen.

If it not visible restart the computer and the printer.  Check the ethernet cable on the printer. You may need to switch cables or ports.  If the printer is still not available select a different printer and contact the District Technicians.

Using the printer icon on the top menu
Click and hold on printer icon that is on the upper right hand side of the menu at the top.  The selected printer is checked.

To change printers highlight anyother printer that is available in the printer window.

*How do I chose a new printer?

Using the Chooser

 

Rainbow Apple
Chooser
Highlight Laserwriter 8 (for all networked computers)
                HP or Epson icons (for all deskjet printers connected by USB or Networked)
Double click on the printer you would like to use
Click OK to the set up questions
An icon will appear on the desktop

**The Chooser window will stay open, you will need to close the chooser window by clicking on the square in the upper left corner of the chooser window.

Double Click on the server you would like to connect to
Highlight the folder you would like to connect to
   (DO NOT CHECK THE BOX)
Enter your user name and password
The server will mount to the desktop

**The Chooser window will stay open, you will need to close the chooser window by clicking on the square in the upper left corner of the chooser window.

*How do I disconnect the server?
 

Trash the icon
To disconnect the server:
Click and hold down on the server icon
Drag the icon to the trash can
Release the mouse button when the icon is over the trash and the trash can turns black

*How do I adjust the volume?

 
Use the keyboard
 
There are three buttons on the keyboard.
The speaker with no lines: mute
The speaker with one line: lower the volume
The speaker with three lines: raise the volume

*How do I change the size or colors?
 
Located in the Machintosh HD
Double click on the Macintosh HD
Double click on the System Folder
Double click on the Control Panel
Double click on Monitors
At this point you can change the colors and size of the screen
Close the window when you are finished

Under the Special Menu
Click on the Desktop
Click and Hold down the word Special along the top menu bar
Drag down to Shut Down
